SaunaSCOPE is built around one job: helping you buy the right home sauna without the guesswork. That comes down to four things.

Reviews — every home sauna we test gets a full write-up, a published score, and the raw data behind it. No guessing what “excellent heat retention” actually means.
Recommendations — once a sauna’s been through testing, we tell you plainly who it’s actually right for, and who should skip it.
Guides — practical, buyer-focused content: traditional vs. infrared, how much clearance you need, what actually matters in a heater, and everything else that’s easy to get wrong before you buy.
Best of the market — regularly updated round-ups of the top-rated home saunas in each category, so you can see the field at a glance instead of digging through forty tabs.

Why we focus on the home market

There’s no shortage of coverage for commercial spa equipment and resort-grade installations. Almost none of it is built for the home sauna buyer — someone weighing a traditional cabin against an infrared unit, wondering if a barrel sauna will survive a real winter, or trying to figure out if a portable tent sauna actually works in a small apartment.

That’s the gap we fill. Every review, guide, and recommendation on this site is written for one person: someone about to spend real money on a home sauna who wants an honest answer.

How we test

Every home sauna goes through the same four-stage process, regardless of price or brand:

Heat-up — timed from a cold start to usable temperature.
Stability — logged over a full session to catch drift and hot spots.
Build — wood, joinery, seals, and heater housing inspected by hand.
Live-in use — two weeks of daily use before a single number gets published.

SaunaSCOPE is free to read, and it’s supported by affiliate links — if you buy a home sauna through a link on this site, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

That relationship never touches the score. Scores are locked in before we know which retailers or brands will be linked in a piece, manufacturers don’t see a review before it’s published, and a well-known brand with an affiliate deal gets the same scrutiny as one without. If a home sauna underperforms in testing, the review says so — commission or not.

Who’s behind SaunaSCOPE

SaunaSCOPE was started by three friends who happen to be a little obsessed with saunas. What began as arguing over whose home sauna recommendation was actually right turned into a shared spreadsheet, then a testing process, then this site — built the way we’d always wanted a home sauna review to be written: hands-on, specific, and honest about the trade-offs.
